What is Sycosis barbae?
Sycosis barbae is the superficial dermatophyte infection on the bare area of the face and neck.
Cause
Sycosis barbae is caused by a bacteria known as staphylococcus aureus.
Sign and Symptoms
1) The affected beard area is swollen and red, tender and pus filled lumps.
2) Painful and crusty skin.
3) Burning and itching when shaving.
4) inflammation deep in between hair follicles.
5) Persistent sinus tract.
Who’s at risk?
It is more common in men than women.
Home remedies
1) Ensure the skin well moisture and clean.
2)Shave less frequently eg. every other day.
3)Use single and disposable blade for shaving.
4)Shave in the direction of the follicles not against it.
Treatment
1)Use topical antibiotics or antiseptic soap, cream as prescribed by your doctor.
2) Take oral antibiotics as prescribed by your doctor on time.
